The Moore & Giles Virginia 10 Miler

Race Day: Sept 27, 2025

In 1972 Frank Shorter started a running boom in the United States by winning the marathon gold medal at the Munich Olympics. Two years later, in September 1974, that wave of enthusiasm reached Lynchburg, where 174 men and 7 women climbed Farm Basket Hill and completed the inaugural Virginia 10 Miler at EC Glass High School. Now,  Fifty Virginia 10 Milers later, that boom continues to reverberate down the streets of Lynchburg on late September Saturdays.
